The post graduate course in botany (M.Sc) was started during 2006-2007, it was established as a separate department by under graduate  department of Botany under the supervision of SMT. K.LEELA head of the department. Andhra Pradesh state council of higher education has sanctioned the course with an initial intake of 24 students. The intake number was subsequently increased to 28 and   presently in I yr. the course is running with 34 students.

The course is affiliated to Kakatiya University with specializations i.e.

III-SEMESTER: BIOSYSTMATICS & PLANT CELL, TISSUE AND ORGAN CULTURE.

IV- SEMESTER: ETHNOBOTANY   & APPLIED PHYCOLOGY.



FACILITIES

The Department has 2  well established spacious laboratories besides a Tissue culture laboratory to train Biotechnology  students ,  a museum and a staffroom.

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT


The Department is maintaining a Botanical Garden. having 100 plant species  majority of them are rare and medicinally valuable

The faculty is adapting  various teaching methods like Bio visual Charts, Flowcharts, by using OHP,  LCD, Slideprojecter and  Specimens.

The Department is having a regular practice to conduct remedial classes for the students who lag behind.

It is the regular  practice of Department to conduct the seminars by involving the students.

The Department supplies study material to the students in certain difficult topics.

The Department conducts 2 unit tests and 2 internal assessment  tests in each semester.

The Department  having  study  projects in which the student were taken to ETURNAGARAM and PAKALA, regular filed trips for collection of aquatic flora and study of diseases in crop plants.

The Department invites eminent personalities from various universities for extension and guest lectures.    

The Department has organized one day seminar on
“ RECENT TRENDS IN PLANT PHYSIOLOGY” in 2007.

The Department is Organized  one day seminar on  
“ETHNOBOTANY AND BIODIVERSITY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS OF ANDHRAPRADESH”  in 2009.
